Today’s dentist has a wide range of materials and techniques to choose from, many of which have evolved in the wake of mercury toxicity concerns, the desire for the perfect smile and rising gold costs.
Although long-term clinical studies are not available for all materials, there is a general understanding within the profession that when used according to tried and proven clinical treatment protocols, the newer generation materials appear to be standing up well when compared against traditional metal based techniques.
We do not use amalgam in children, pregnant or breast-feeding mothers, the immunocompromised or patients specifically requesting non-amalgam dentistry. However, as non-metal derivatives are usually weaker and more technique sensitive than their metal counterparts, patients need to be educated with respect to indications and limitations of the various materials available, particularly patients who brux (grind or clench their teeth).
Whilst we do not recommend nor condone en-masse amalgam (mercury) removal, patients requesting non-amalgam dentistry will be managed according to contemporary or case specific amalgam replacement protocols.
At Dental Sense, we can provide patients with a range of solutions incorporating direct resin restorations, state of the art ceramics, fibre-reinforced resins and bleaching.
Course of Action At Dental Sense we will initially complete comprehensive clinical and radiographic examination, obtaining mounted diagnostic casts and wax-up where necessary, to facilitate assessment, treatment planning and informed consent. In the case of implant-supported restorations, additional specialist consultation with either a Periodontist or Maxillofacial Surgeon will be necessary.
Do you provide a warranty? We provide a 3-year warranty against mechanical failure for all treatment provided, assuming patients comply with treatment plans in their entirety, with work being replaced at health fund rebate or equivalent.
